The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Is the errorReport.cpp file included in the project ? Was it (re-)compiled (is there an up-to-date object file for it) ?

Also, I don't think this should necessarily have anything to do with your problem, but:

>> bool Block::errorChecking(Token actualTokens[], int position, int tokencount)
>> {
>>     errorReport errorMessages;

You've already defined an errorReport errorMessages as a private data member of the Block class, so you're shadowing it with the local one.

Thank you for getting back to me.  errorReport is included in the project forlder.

I'm using Dev C++ to build this project on a windows machine.  I just re-ran the Dev C++ compile function.  When I look into the project folder I notice that the time stamps on the .o files haven't changed.

My compiler provides me with the following:

g++.exe ztestcode.o errorReport.o reservwds.o token..o 01program.o 02block.o 03decSeq.o 07cmdSeq.o  -o "Project2.exe" -L"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib"

02block.o(.text+0x62d):02block.cpp: undefined reference to `errorReport::blockMsg(std::string, Token)'
02block.o(.text+0x786):02block.cpp: undefined reference to `errorReport::blockMsg(std::string, Token)'
02block.o(.text+0x8df):02block.cpp: undefined reference to `errorReport::blockMsg(std::string, Token)'

It needs to be included in the project tree (on the left hand side). I assume that you did create a project, and are not just compiling separate files ?

Then you do a complete rebuild (Ctrl + F11).

Thank you SeanDurkin,

I put that reference in hoping it would shed some light on my problem and forgot to remove it.

In reviewing the error message I just posted I noticed that its missing the first few lines:

g++.exe -c 02block.cpp -o 02block.o -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.2/include"  -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/backward"  -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/mingw32"  -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2"  -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include"

I do have a project and the file was in the project tree on the left.  However, when I used the cmd you recommended (Ctrl + F11) the program compiled and no linker error, just a minor refernce error which I cleaned up.

Why did (Ctrl + F11) make a difference.  I've been using the Crtl + F9.

Ctrl + F11 is the "rebuild all" command ... It will rebuild the whole project (completely), even files that have already been built.
It's a good way to get the project in a clean state again.
