It depends on how your thread allocates the storage for the buffer. If you are using something like
BYTE* pBuf = new BYTE[SOME_SIZE];
the memory will be allocated from the heap. A construct like
BYTE aBuf[SOME_SIZE];
would place it on the stack. I somehow doubt that the thread's stack size is the reason for that, since the default stack size for a thread is 1MB, which usually is enough.
