I was using eclipse ganymede without any problem until now. Now, if I try to open eclipse ganymede, it display message such as...
JVM terminated exitcode=-1
...
...
...
with "OK" button at the bottom.
It doesn't even ask work space and if I click ok button the eclipse exits.
Restart my pc doesn't help.
Any ideas?
thx,
p.s.
I figured out I have this problem.
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap

What OS are you running on?
For starters download a Clean minimal "IDE for Jave Developers" unpack into a temporary directory.
Start the new copy and if you can open a New workspace, then your old it's going to be your old config.
If it's the old config start to compare the config files, starting with .../eclipse/eclips.ini (Even if they are the same and you have free memory to spare you might want to increase the max mem values).
I run wins xp pro.
I have old eclipse version(3.2.2) and it's config is:
-vmargs
-Xms128m
-Xmx512m
-XX:MaxPermSize=256M
and it runs ok.
This is the eclipse.ini for ganymede:
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256M
-framework
plugins\org.eclipse.osgi_3
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion
-Xms128m
-Xmx512m
I don't understand why old version runs ok.
Per tha manual: http://www.eclipse.org/ecl
You may wish to run it with to clean you config:
eclipse.exe -clean
Either from the command prompt or:
* Right click the Eclipse Icon
* Select Properties
* Append a "-clean",
Click OK
Start Eclipse.
See what happens, remember to remove the "-clean".
So it's your configuration, again per the http://www.eclipse.org/ecl
Ok, I found this in my workspace.

So it's your XMLViewPart perspective that's causing the issue.

If you can get in to your workbenck using the -clean option, then close the XML perspective, reset the properties to the default values, exit and try to get back in without the -clean.
I reset the properties to the default values for XML preferences(windows-->prefe
Another problem I had was that I changed to old values in eclipse.ini and started eclipse and without doing much I had out of memory error and had to exit workbench.
I deleted all previous java and reinstalled the latest jre. (it was a long process and much trouble.) I checked this site and it's working fine.
http://www.java.com/en/dow
But when I launch eclipse ganymede, I still have the same problem. Eclipse 3.2 still works fine. I checked the log and I only saw error message when I tried to delete jboss server from eclipse 3.2.
I think this may not be the jre issue. I get same error when I try a fresh copy of eclipse ganymede. Geez...what is it then...?
Only other suggestion is have a look through / ask the question on the Eclipse Comunity Forum: http://www.eclipse.org/for
