The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi Ashirbad,

Generallly that means that everything is up to date so that the make process determines there is nothing to be done.

If you want to force a rebuild, update any of the source files and run make again.

Good Luck,
Kent

Or that the make file is incorrect (maybe even empty)

Hi Kent

Thanks for the quick response. Actually the error message comes up when I try to run the project. i.e after the build process is over and I click on Run to execute the project this message pops up. What I expect is the output of the program.

Will await your response,
Ashirbad

The run command probably performs a build first, and since you had already done that, there is nothing more to do. So, that message is probably entirely normal.

The fact that you don't get an output can be because of a few reasons :

1) verify that the executable was created. Does it exist ?

2) check that your program actually DOES give output ;)

3) add this line just before the final return of main :

        system("PAUSE");

    and add this include :

        #include <stdlib.h>

Hi Infinity08,

>>  Or that the make file is incorrect (maybe even empty)

I believe that the makefile is autogenerated here.

Hi Ashirbad,

It sounds like the makefile is checking all of the prerequisites and finding that all are current.  However, there is no application (exe file) so the IDE is attempting to make one.

Chicken and egg.  (circular logic.)  The makefile detects no changes so there is nothing to do.  The IDE detects no executable so it tries to make one.

Change ANY of the source files (just replace one without really changing anything) and try again.  Or delete one or more of the object (obj) files associated with the project.

Good Luck,
Kent

Hello

I think your second point is correct... I dont know why but the exec generated is not behaving as expected. When I try creating the project in Eclipse it works fine i.e even after the mesg the output is provided. However in my case I'm using Rhapsody(a modeling and code generation tool) and Eclipse integration. And in this case till I build all is fine (no errors). But when I run the project in Eclipse it just stops at that mesg. I tried to run the exec as standalone and find no output..... so I think the exec, as you have suggested is not behaving as expected. I'll have to further narrow down the issue...

If you have any further inputs... it will be great :)

Thanks for your help,
Ashirbad

Without seeing the actual code, that's kind of hard :)
