configure log4j to work with IntelliJ

Hi all!

 I recently installed log4j to work in conjunction with Struts. My platform is IntelliJ and wherever I put the log4j.properties files it does not take it into consideration and I do not get any output messages in the server console. Also will it be possible to log these messages into a .txt file?
