We started having some strange IP issues on 10/27. We don't use DHCP, but suddenly 1 of our servers got an IP conflict. This was found and resolved quickly - a cisco switch that was initially going to replace the server's IP (but was abandoned) suddenly began listening on this IP. Next a user workstation got an IP conflict. We tracked it down to our UPS' web interface having moved itself from it "proper" IP to a new IP. I am the only person who has the password to do this. Then today, another PC in the same area of the bldg got an IP conflict. Using the same technique (MAC Address), I cannot find the culprit. It is listed as an IBM device & the cisco switch reports it is on the same port as another IBM device, BUT the MAC Address is no where to be found... I know MAC addresses can be spoofed, but can you trick the switch too? I am in the process of scanning the PC on this port for AV, but I am drawing blanks... Could these all be malicious "hacks" to screw with the IT dept? :) I have scoured the LAN for DHCP & found none... Ideas?
