Question

I can not ping my laptop from the server and have found a application event error TrueVector Service Event ID 5003.

Asked by: donnapr

I found that I had a problem when my CA Threat Managment software would not update from the server.  I have tried to ping my laptop from the server and can't.  I have never loaded Alarme Zone and my windows firewall is turned off but the ports are blocked.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

So your trying to ping the laptop from the server or from the laptop to the server?
What have you tried doing so far exactly?

I will be glad to help as I have dealt with all kinds of these issues.

I have tried to ping from the laptop to the server and from the server to the laptop with no luck.

Try booting the questionable laptop into "Safe Mode with Networking" and then try to ping. If that works in Safe Mode, then it is definitely some software blocking the ping.

Try it and let me know.

start>run>cmd

netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh firewall reset

Reboot, and disable your XP Firewall......

Any better?

Also, do you see the True Vector Service listed in start>run>Services.MSC?

If so, Disable it.....

Rebooted in safe mode and could ping from laptop to server but not from server to laptop.  Did not see the True Vector Server listed in service.  Could it be listed as another name?  I will try the netsh firwall  reset next.
Thanks

In the registry.....

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Hit F3, and search for "True" (or TrueVector, u get the idea...)

When you find it, Change the Startup Type..

Change it to a 4.......

Take a look at this... Very Interesting!
http://www.issociate.de/board/post/203285/Truevector_Service.html

Hope that may help. It seems that you may need to manually remove some files that are associated with the TrueVector service or you may continue to have issues.
I don't know whether you got a bug, but it seems that you definitely don't want that TrueVector service on your machine.

The link you provided was helpful.  I found that my VPN software was the problem.  The stateful firewall was turned on and I could not turn it off.  I uninstalled the reinstalled the VPN software which solved the problem.  Thanks for your help.
