I need som help building a function retrieving values from different sequences (oracle)
//as_sequence is a string parameter f.ex FV_SP_MSG_MSG_STATE
ls_sql = "select " + as_sequence + ".nextval into :ll_id from dual"
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE :ls_sql using sqlca;
My problem is that the "nextval" from the sequence is not stored in the powerbuilder variable "ll_id"
This syntax works:
select FV_SP_MSG_MSG_STATE.nextva
but the sequence name need to be dynamic.
What am I doing wrong ??

Hi,
It seems this syntax works only inside pl/sql.. not in PB
You can have a pl/sql function
create or replace function fn_getSEQNexVal( seq_name IN VARCHAR2) return NUMBER is
l_seqNexval NUMBER(15);
begin
execute immediate 'select ' || seq_name||'.nextval from dual' into l_seqNexval ;
return l_seqNexval ;
end;
And call this function from PB, by decaring it as an RPCFUNC on SQLCA.. or by any other method.

hi dk if this is not working this way try the other way
DECLARE my_cursor DYNAMIC CURSOR FOR SQLSA ;
PREPARE SQLSA FROM "select " + as_sequence + ".nextval from dual" ;
OPEN DYNAMIC my_cursor ;
FETCH my_cursor INTO :ll_id ;
CLOSE my_cursor ;
