Setcolumn not working in itemchanged event

I have a datawindow that I am using for data entry, in the itemchanged event of this window I am validating what was entered.  if the user enters a invalide part number a message box pops up and lets them know to check and re-enter, I setcolumn back to the column I want them to correct, but after you click the OK on the error message you see it get focus of the field I want them to correct, but then it tabs to the next field.  (they press tab to get to next field, so it is the tab the triggers the itemchanged event)  I have tried making a user event called from the itemchanged to setcolumn, but it continues to do the same thing.  help!

after your message from itemchange just write return 1 no need to set the column.

check pb help for return values in itemchanged event

0  (Default) Accept the data value
1  Reject the data value and do not allow focus to change
2  Reject the data value but allow the focus to change
