Particle storm

Okay, I know that particle storm is a stupidly complicated program (or rather, its interface is complicated) but I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to get anything useful out of it. I can do particle replacement, but only by using a very in depth tutorial that I found on an internet page. I was wondering, how do you go about creating explosions and water and so forth. All I can get when I use it is a bunch of particles. Which is pretty useless unless your animation require a bunch of particles. Which most peoples do not.
Help me please, it so annoying having a plug-in that you cant use.

particles ARE used for explosions and what-not. however, most of the time, steamer is what is used to actually render the effects such as....steam, smoke, fire, and so on. hyper voxels is another plug-in that does such effects with particles (mostly organic stuff. rocks and clouds, stuff like that). i don't think many people use particles for water since the rendering times would be horendous.

Thanks, however, I do know that PS is the program that is mainly used to create all of the effects previously mentioned. Besides my steamer doesn't work so I do not have alot of choice.
Does anyone else have a tutorial or anything?
