Programming for PSX/PS2

I have a PC and a CD burner.  How can I write a program on my PC and burn it on a CD so that it runs on a Sony Playstation, or better yet, Playstation 2?  

I know that it is possible to get Playstation 2 SDK, but it costs $20,000 or something, and frankly out of my range --- by several digits.  Besides, who outside of Japan can afford PS2 anyway?

Thanks!  It looks almost like what I wanted, except I am not sure if they are still taking applications.  I am checking with Sony right now, so please be patient.  

Of course, if someone can tell me how to do this without paying $1,000, I will be grateful.

Hm.. there are some informations on the net how to program the psx using the exploder or gamebuster cheathardware..

is a good start... They also have example codes and technical documentation (everything reverse engineered I think).

it's worth the look (and it's cheap.. you only need a pc, a modded psx, a cheat cardridge and a serial cable to start coding).

Well, that is a fine site, but what is more, it links to a Not Yaroze (not NET but NOT) page, which was the most helpful I could find.  

And yes, you do not need to shell out a grand.

I don't think there will be a PS2 development method available, so Nils wins the points for this one.

Net Yaroze is not bad at all --- I actually like that it is an official program --- but I get this feeling that they are dormant if not inactive...
