The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi,

The headers gl.h and glu.h are components of OpenGL package, found at www.opengl.org.

Just to remember and avoid confusion:
GLU - OpenGL Utility Library
GLUT - OpenGL Utility Toolkit

I have noticed in your code that you are using the GLUT Library.
It is another package, not included in the OpenGL official pack.
You will need also the header glut.h, as well the other files of GLUT.
The GLUT Library is available at the opengl.org site too.

Please note, GLUT is not free software, althought we can donwload it for free.
Also, there are other implementations of such library, at:
- Nate Robins' library: http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut.html
- freeglut: http://freeglut.sourceforge.net
- OpenGlut: http://openglut.sourceforge.net

Hope it helps!

Jose

where is the OpenGL package at www.opengl.org

08.01.2006 at 09:10AM PDT, ID: 17225180
Hi,

Actually the APIs are for download at Microsoft, Apple or other O.S. vendor.
Please take a look at http://www.opengl.org/documentation/implementations/.
For Windows, the self-extracting file opengl95.exe is pointed from there. This package has the gl.h and glu.h you are searching for.

By the way, if you don't have such headers, probably don't have also other must to have files, as OPENGL.DLL, GLU.DLL and OPENGL32.LIB and GLU32.LIB (don't use the oldfashioned AUX files, the GLUTs are better). The DLLs should be placed at SYSTEM32 Windows directory. And the LIBs' path should be configured in your compiler/linker.

Hi,

Did you changed the question?
In the code there is a comment that you find the headers, and another comment asking about which compiler to use to the code from the Distiller book.

If it is a new question (as it has an essentially new subject), please post it as a new one.

I am not sure if Turbo C++ 3.0 (it is a Windows 3.1 program) works.
My guess is NO.
As far I am understanding, if the OpenGL (from Microsoft opengl95.exe) and the toolkit (from the sites I described before) are installed and the compiler is the MS VC++ 5 or the Dec-Cpp, it should compile, link and run properly. Which error messages do you receive? At compile or at run time?

Jose

thanks Jose u answeres my initial question .. i'm going to download it n try to compile it using Dev-Cpp ..
although i've switched from OpenGL(2.0) Distilled to a tutorial at nehe.gamedev.net .. it's actually OpenGL 1.4 but it's 10 times better than OpenGL Distilled ..
