Blackberry Enterprise Server stuck at Initializing

I just installed a BES 4.1 it running in vmware server running on Windows 2003 server SP1.

 I have a SBS exchange 2003 server running in a different vmware session running on windows 2003 server sp1.

When I goto to add users to the BES, the exchange server is contacted and the and the list of users comes up. I select a user and its added to the BES users screen.  However the status is stuck at "initializing" and last contact is never.

I have attempted an enterprise activation on a working blackberry and it never gets past the first line of the enterprise activation.

I have run the "blackberry server configuration" app and tested the SQL connection, validated the SRP key and Id, tested t he "blackberry router" by clicking ont he "test network connection".

I have delete the user and re-added t hem. I added another user with a very small mail box.  

I have stoped and started the BES and rebooted both the exchange server and bes.

im in the process of upgradeing the BES to 4.1 SP2, but i dont think that is the issue.  

My guess is that is has something to do with SBS version of exchange, and accessing that mailbox from the bes.

Just upgraded to 4.1.2.20 and the problem still exists

Are you setting an activation password under the users properties? What password are you using in Enterprise Activation on the device? (e.g. the one you set on the BES or are you trying the NT logon?)

"initializing" always appears when you add  new user and will stay there until the user is activated.  

Also go to "\Program File\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility and run the file BBSrpTest.exe from the command line.  The will test if your server can contact BB and it waits for a reply.

BBsrpTest works.

On the BES i set a "activation password" under service access.

I try to do an enterprise activation on the device and I see "activating xxxx@domain.com", but nothing else.

This device did work on a 3.6? bes with the same SRP.  I did wipe on the device and had new service books sent.  I did a "register now".

Under "Security options" i see the old "it policy name" and Services is listed as "no services".

I am accessing the bes via terminal server.  I can not put a usb cable into it to do wired activation.

Upgrade the devices firmware if possible.  Also connect this device via USB to the BES server, open BlackBerry Manager and go to "Local Ports (Device Manager)" and you should see your devices PIN listed beside USB.  If you can see your device go back to your user that won't activate and open the "device management" tab, select "assign device" and select the device from the list.

This will activate your device and update the device correctly.  Once this is done your device should be able to activate wirelessly when required.

I recently setup bes express 4.1 and had the same problem.  Removing the user from 'administrators' group on the domain immediately changed the user status on the bes manager from 'initializing' to 'running'.
