Setting up a blackberry.

I have a blackberry from a user.  I have no clue on blackberrys.  How do I set this user up so that they can receive emails from the BES server.  I already downloaded the desktop manager.  I also went into the server and created a profile and generated and sent a password to use to activate the blackberry.  I typed that password in and activated from the blackberry, I've waited for about 30 minutes and nothing is happening.  The server shows that it is initializing under status, but nothing else is changing.

Is there a step-by-step instruction?  I would also like to import contacts and calenders from outlook also.

What version of BES do you have? I will write up a short step by step guide for you

The emails you mentioned above are they coming into your inbox? These emails are supposed to be collected by the BES server without the end user ever seeing them.  This can indicate an issue within different areas such as:

1. Issue with the BES server
2. Issue with Outlook or Spam filter preventing the files from being processed.
3. You have installed the Desktop Redirector incorrectly (or when not required).

How do I find out what version of BES I have?

On the server, the Blackberry Manager is 4.0.3.10.  Some of the documentation says BES 4.0.

So you could be right about it being spammed out.  If this is the case, what do I do or is there a work around?  Also I did install the Desktop Redirector, I don't believe I set it up, and I'm not sure if its required.

Ok, when you install Desktop Manager ensure you select the "BlackBerry Enterprise Sever" option during the install.  If these emails above continue to be blocked by your SPAM filter you won't be able to activate the users.

So your first step is to enter a rule into your SPAM filter to ensure the Blackberry emails aren't blocked.  Once you have done this open BlackBerry Manager on the server and ensure your new user has been added, just right mouse click in the users area and select "Add User".  Once that user has been added double click on the user and you will see on the properties window "Set Activation Password", just set a password and Apply the settings.  Now from the device go to the Enterprise Activation icon and enter the users email address and the password you just set, click the trackwheel and select activate.

If you don't have an Enterprise Activation icon go into Options & Security (then General Settings on new devices), from security click the trackwheel and select Wipe Handheld.  This will format the device and return it to factory settings.

Thanks, the issue was that I had to be on the blackberry's owner's computer to do the registration.  Not sure why it had to be like that.
