Question

BlackBerry can send but not receive email

Asked by: itmstech

BlackBerry 7250 will send emails but not receive. Users outlook is sending and receiving fine on his pc. We are using an BB Enterprise server with 6 other BB's working fine. History behind the issue is as follows: User was dabbling in mail on his BB and believes he moved some folders accidentally. One was his inbox. He says he was seeing two inboxes in the folder list so he deleted one of them. Since then, no incoming mail. I have removed battery, and rebooted. Performed a master reset, and re-activated. Same results. Any ideas? I need to put this to rest ASAP!

You may need to recreate his mail box since he may have corrupted the original inbox somehow.

I would also try to remove and  readd him on the BES server first.

Also check the BES logs.

I hope this helps !

Will do. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the reply.

If you don't remove the user from the BES first and then re-add them the old settings will be restore to the device.  I assume at some point the user has disabled redirection of his email, by default is sync Inbox and sent items.

You can check from the handheld by doing the following:

1. Open Messages > Press the trackwheel > Select Options > Select Email Settings > Press the trackwheel and select "Folder redirection" from the Menu > Ensure inbox is selected.   If it is already selected then unselect it and save, then change it back and save.

2. Open Messages > Press the trackwheel > Select Options > Select Email Reconciliation > Ensure Wireless Reconcile is on.  If it is already on then if off and save, then turn it on and save.

I'll check that first for sure! I'm very limited on when I can work on this issue. Since the users pc outlook is still working, he's reluctant to allow any "down time". I'll check redirection first, then mailbox re-creation as the last effort. He's out of the office Tuesday so I hope to let you know the results that afternoon.

Thanks

Well this just gets better and better. The user is out of the office but took his BB with him. When looking at a few other BB's from other users as well as my own, I can't seem to locate the "options" mentioned above. We are all using 7250's. The options available on my EMail settings are:
Send Email to Handheld - Yes
Save Copy In Sent Folder - Yes
Use Auto Signature - No
Use Out Of Office Reply - No

EM Reconciliation:
Delete On: - Handheld
Wireless Reconcile - On
On Conficts - Mailbox Wins

Again these settings are from a working Blackberry. No idea what the users settings are. I'm hoping to reschedule some face time with the users BB as soon as he returns. Sorry to drag this out!

An add/remove from BES worked! Thanks for all the input!
