Question

Blackberry Enterprise Wireless Calendar Disabled

Asked by: wait1

Hi. I've read all the forums i could find on this, and searched all EE questions like this.

Basically the Wireless Calendar is set to disabled on our BES (4.1.6). I've set up quite a few of these now and this is a new one to me, and 30hrs later i'm a bit over it.

Running:
SBS 2003
BES on DIFFERENT PC (XPP on domain) - started as Express, no Enterprise
BESAdmin user
Tried:
Permissions triple checked
Handhelds (3) wiped
BES wiped and set up 3 times
BES restarted
SBS restarted
Checked SP2 on Exchange
Handheld restarted
Device checked: option manually turned on, but switched back off itself
Service books sent again
IT Policy looked at - made new one just in case
Bought 5 Enterprise licenses to see if it wast that
NEW Blackberry aquired and setup with NEW user account to check permissions, etc - same problem
Tried calling BB - useless
Tried calliing supplier of licenses - no idea
Tried calling phone carrier - waste of time

Can anyone shed some light? That'd be great. Thank you.
N.

Hi, on the device if you open the Calendar > Press menu > Select Options > (On new devices select Desktop) > What is the wireless sync setting present and set to Yes?

by: wait1Posted on 2009-05-15 at 06:24:20ID: 24395180

Hi. Sorry - i wasn't clear in my list. That was the 'Device checked' bit - Wireless Sync is set to 'No.' When changed to 'Yes' - nothing happens. A few minutes later it goes back to 'No.' This is the same on all 3 devices.

thx.

Have you reviewed the BlackBerry log files?

by: wait1Posted on 2009-05-15 at 17:20:51ID: 24400586

On the BES i assume you mean...? Yes, but there are hundreds of log files. What should i look for?

by: garycutriPosted on 2009-05-17 at 06:54:02ID: 24406163

The MAGT log file.

by: garycutriPosted on 2009-05-17 at 06:56:31ID: 24406189

The logs are located in \Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs and you need to review a log date that you enabled wireless sync and it automatically changed back.

Hi - thanx for the ideas. I decided to try a full wipe of windows on a new hdd and try again from scratch. Here's the really dumb thing: when i downloaded AGAIN the recommended BB software from the link they provided, i got version 4.1.4. Anyone setting up from scratch, here's the advice - don't use this version. Get version 4.1.6 instead.

4.1.4 didn't work - lots of problems communicating with the BB phone (plugged in to make it faster) and recognizing users. I uninstalled it in frustration, found 4.1.6 and installed that. I added the license CALs, added the user, assigned the user to a phone plugged in - PRESTO! Everything worked just like it was supposed to. Wireless calendars finally sync-ing.

I think what happened was that the inital 4.1.4 version just didn't work properly, and previous updates to 4.1.6 didn't go through properly. This time i totally uninstalled 4.1.4 and reinstalled 4.1.6. Don't know install on another box didn't work - must have been 4.1.4 again.

I have to say i think this software really bites. Once it's working it's sweet, but initially it's very confusing when they're giving out different versions and you have to pay for support for a product you've already paid for...that's low. Resellers of the product don't know the software at all either, which doesn't help.

Version 4.1.4 has a different interface to 4.1.6 with less options and aspects seemingly 'hidden.' In 4.1.4 it's nigh on impossible to remove a user. You delete it, but have to purge the user somehow. Try and find out where! In 4.1.6 it's easy.... why oh why are BB still sending links to this older antiquated buggy version? I could have saved 50hrs of my life if i had just received 4.1.6 first...

Oh my goodness...

thanx for your help, though, EE. I hope others find this post helpful and save their sanity. Go mobile exchange devices....
