Question

blackberry will not open hotmail account

Asked by: chrism41

Hi i have a blackberry 8310 which  i bought on ebay, it had an it policy which i removed but the firewall is still locked. This does not seem to affect the  other features and i can  access internet. I can open other pages but when i go to msn hotmail it allows me to enter my email and password for log in but then the page that comes up is blank,, is there a reason why i cannot access my hotmail account from this blackberry?

Hi, are you accessing the Mobile version of Hotmail? http://mobile.live.com

by: chrism41Posted on 2009-06-04 at 06:37:44ID: 24546744

No, normally i just type in msn.com, go to the hotmail link above and type in log in detaills. It used to take me to my inbox but now i just get  a blank screen with the message above folder.aspx?fid=00000....
I did try typing in the above link which took me to windows live showing my live id screen but again when i click on mail i get the same screen. Does it matter if it is gsm or gprs?

If you bought this thing on ebay, you should really wipe the handheld to restore it to factory condition. That'll get rid of any weird settings from the old owner.

Options>Security Options>General Settings>BB menu button>Wipe Handheld

Well i did that but it had an it policy which wouldnt let me disable password etc, so i downloaded a policy to add to desktop manager and after lot of mucking around it removed the it policy, the only thing is that the firewall remained locked with a small red padlock next to it. It allows me to open browser and as said go to hotmail r even windows live but no access to inbox, very frustrating as without email pretty much well just a phone!

chrism41, the best way to remove the IT policy is to use javaloader, a free tool that comes with the BlackBerry JDE. You can download the latest JDE from blackberry.com//developers (you'll have to sign up for a free account, but it's worth it to get access to the tools and simulators) - make sure you get at least 4.6 JDE or higher.

Once you've downloaded the JDE and installed it, look in the install folder for javaloader.exe. FIRST backup all your data using desktop manager as javaloader wipes it.

Next, plug in your device, go to command prompt, navigate to the folder with javaloader, and use the following command:

javaloader -u resettofactory

the "-u" switch tells it to use USB
the "resettofactory" tells the device to reset all settings back to factory, including IT policy.

You can use javaloader for much more (i use it to extract cod files and bulk-load apps) but those are answers for another thread ;)

Hope that helps!

Here is a link to download JL_Cmder.
A handy little app that will wipe a device, reset to factory and even take screenshot's of the blackberry.
have used it many times to fix 'bricked' blackberry's
Best of all, it's free, and nothing to sign up to.
Cheers!

Hi, well i downloaded JL  program , wiped device and reset it to factory using program, removed the battery as required and restarted it, now all i get is a blank screen with a small box in the middle with 3 smaller shapes in a row in the centre, a circle, a square and a triangle. There is also a line crossing from one corner to the other as in like a no entry-no smoking sign.there is also the numbers 507 across the bottom of the box.  So i am taking a guess that it means  its toast??

Nope, it is all fine. Just make sure desktop manager is running on your computer, plug in your blackberry. It will not show connected, but this is ok. Click on add applications, it will recognize the handheld and reload the software. Am not at my computer now, so all this is from memory, let me know if you get stuck and when I get back to my machine I will try to send a more accurate description.
Good news is, your blackberry should be fine.

by: chrism41Posted on 2009-06-06 at 22:58:01ID: 24565486

Yeah no go unfort there. did that said device connected, pressed add applications but it said basically blackberry device manager has no blackberry software suitable for connected device.Tried reloading , reinstalling BB desktop manager, etc it still the same.  And although when i press detect connection it comes up with device found and the pin number if i downsize window and look in my computer it shows a drive connected ie: d or f, but if i right click on it says no device connected! hmm....not sure what on earth is next!

by: Rise50Posted on 2009-06-06 at 23:52:55ID: 24565578

Ok, no problem, you just need to download handheld software to your computer so the desktop manager can load it to the phone. Go to www.blackberryforums.com  navigate to the section on your model of phone.
One of the sticky messages at the top should be the latest handheld software with instructions on how to load it on your computer. Once you have that installed, yet updating your phone again.

Well....after a lot of mucking about finally got desktop to download software, for some reason kept turning itself off (thats another story) after about three attempts and watching the hourglass on the 8310 spin around for about 30 mins finally some good news.. software loaded and phone is working. iT actually has now a video camera and some other apps not previosuly on there, however...............no browser for internet. went to change applications and found it there but when i press it it tells me device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries contact service provider to enable browser.  I used repaid vodafone and on a previous 8310 never had any trouble accessing internet or email, only thing before was bit slow and would not let me open attachments.

Vodafone don't send down the BIS-Browsing service books by default. If you call up customer services (I know, I know, not the best experience) and ask for the Browsing service books to be sent down, you'll get the icon.

Alternatively post in the Vodafone e-forums (http://forum.vodafone.co.uk) and one of the moderators will get in touch with you directly and push down the service books.
