BES Express installation cannot find user mailbox
Hi Experts,
I am trying to install BES express for Exchange 2010, everything goes well in the initial installation till it comes to the MAPI settings where it asks for the exchange server address and user mailbox name.
At that point it says "The setup application could not find a mailbox that is named BESadmin".
I have tried to run besprofile.exe -s and added the user name and server name in the profile and pressed check name and it worked perfectly.
I have followed the installation document and given all the required persmissions and configure the user besadmin accordingly.
Please find the log file attached for more information.
I would highly appreciate if someone can help me to resolve this error.

Hi Simon,
I have installed the latest MAPI component fromt he microsoft website and I have checked the account by creating a new message in outlook and click on th To button to access the GAL and I can see all the accounts listed.

I would have to say then that there is something wrong with the account.
Remove its permissions, then remove the account and recreate it. This is not an error I have seen before.

I want to ask you 2 more question.
1- I have BES 4.1 running with Exchange 2003 and BESX with Exchange 2010, both are on separate servers, how can I migrate users from BES to BESX without doing the activation again?
2- Three users on the BES usese certificates for S/Mime, how can I move them so all there setting remains the same without installing the certificates or doing the activation again?

Hi Abdullah,
Use the BlackBerry Transporter tool. It is a free download from RIM available here:
https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=D736BB10D83A904AEFC1D6CE93DC54B8
Choose the Service Pack 3 option in the drop down then it's the second item down on the list.
This will allow you to do on-the-fly migrations between BES servers without the need to reactivate the handsets.

If the users will be moving from one Exchange server to another, there is a considerable difference in the complexity of the problem and I suggest you raise a new question in the Exchange category.
If they are staying on the same server, first ensure that the new server is ready to use S/MIME. There is a BlackBerry article available here:

Yes, exactly.
Move them from old Bes to new Bes first using the Transporter tool. Then you can migrate them from Exchange 2003 to 2010.
As an additional note, when you move the besadmin account from 2003 to 2010, you will probably need to restart the BES services so that it can recognise the new location of the besadmin mailbox.

If i dont move the BES admin account instead create a new one like besadminX?
No, don't do that. The Besadmin account carries information about the setup and configuration of the BES in hidden mail folders. Keep to the same account unless you are looking to create lots of problems for yourself.

Many Thanks for your help Mike, one last thing, can you tell me step by step what I need to do Migrate the users from Exchange 2003 with BES to Exchange 2010 with BESX?
I have all the servers in my test lab working perfectly but I dont have the BES that needs to configured with Exchange 2003, this is why I want to be 100% sure.

Migrate the BlackBerry users from BES to BESX first using the BlackBerry Transporter tool.
Once they are on the new server and are verified as running without any problems, you are free to migrate any and all users from 2003 to 2010. BESX will automatically detect the change in server and update itself automatically.
When the Besadmin account is migrated, restart all of the BESX services and make sure they start in a smooth manner.
I don't think you'll have many problems :-)
