Will BES recongize new mailbox after purge?

I'm using BES 4.1 with MS Exchange 2003 SP2.

I have one user who is setup and working, except for the fact that his contacts won't sync in either direction.  I've been around and around with RIM support and even they seem to be perplexed. Multiple activations, and Wipes of the handheld, and at the end of the day no change.

In the past I had a problem with this user's mailbox, and am starting to think that may be where the issue is. I'd like to dump his data to a .pst, delete/purge his mailbox, and start over with a new mailbox and eventually import selectively from the .pst file.  The problem is the user is not around a lot, and its not often I have access to his device.  If I do this would the BES server pick up the new mailbox once it got attached to the AD user, or would I have to reactivate?
