Desktop Program unable to submit message

Zones: Handheld and PDA Programming, Exchange Email Server, Blackberry Operating System

Hi people,

I've got a problem with Blackberry Enterprise Server.

I can't send email from my handheld, I get the message "Desktop Program unable to submit message"

I've checked Send As and the account has the right permissions, but is still unable to send email

Any ideas ?

To correct the "Send As" issue I have outlined the steps I use to quickly resolve this issue:

1. Stop the Blackberry Router service.

2. Open Active Directory and from the View menu select "Advanced Features". Then go to each user that will be added to the BES and open their properties, go to the security tab and add the user BESadmin and add the security permission "Send As".

3. Run the following script logged on as Administrator
Note: Only use this step if you have BlackBerry users that are members of Admin groups. Using best practice methods it is recomended that mobile user accounts aren't members of any administration groups.

dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=domainname,dc=c om " /G "DOMAINNAME\BESadmin:CA;Send As"

Example 1: dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=experts-exchange,dc=com " /G "EXPERTS_EXCHANGE\BESadmin:CA;Send As"

Example 2: dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=blackberryforums,dc =com,dc=au " /G "BLACKBERRYFORUMS\BESadmin:CA;Send As"

Example 3: dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=mobilenetwork,dc=lo cal" /G "MOBILENETWORK\BESadmin:CA;Send As"

4. Wait 20 minutes and then restart the BlackBerry Router service.

5. Restart the BES server.

Thanks Gary, but the account has the send as permission

I found your post on another thread on EE for the same problem, but it didn't fix it.

Also, the user in question isn't an Administrator

Any other ideas ?

Go back and double check if the Send As permission is still there. If it is please ensure that you stop the BlackBerry Router service for 20 minutes (even give it 25). The reason for stopping the router service is to allow exchange to re-cache the permission from AD (This is done every 20 minutes).

I'll check, but instead of giving it 20 minutes, I rebooted it instead so it would pick up new settings

They're both sitting on the same server Exchange & Domain Controller

Rebooting will not normally help you fast track the process. You will need to ensure the permission is there and stop the service for 20 minutes or more.

Just checked, and the user does have Send As permission, and it's ticked

He's not a member of any admin group so I presume I don't need to run the dsacls command ?

We've only got the one BES user, the boss

Just found out a bit more info.

Apparently his laptop was about to be joined to the domain, so a Restricted Group was created called LocalAdmins and he was put in it to give him local admin access to his laptop

It was then that this problem started occurring

He has since been removed from the group and the group deleted

He is now just a member of Domain Users and Remote Desktop Users

Hopefully that sheds some light

OK, managed to fix it

Removed the BESAdmin account from his profile and reset all the permissions on the AD root and added BESAdmin at the root.

That didn't fix it, nor did the BESAdmin account appear in his list of permissions.

For some reason, his account was set not to inherit the permissions, as soon as I turned that on, hey presto, it worked.

So, I've copied your process from above Gary, and added the "Check inheritance of the users in AD" to it.

Technically I've fixed it myself, but with your help, so I'm awarding the points to you gary
