Problem opening .msg files

I have a problem opening .msg files that are saved on a network drive. I can open them once but if i close it I cannot re-open them. I get an error saying "Can't open file x:\file.msg. The file may not exist. You may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another program. Right click the folder that contains the file, and then click properties to check yourpermissions for the folder".

I don't think its a permissions problem since all authenticated users have full access. Also, this problem occurs about 50% of the time only. There are days that msg file access is working perfect but there are days that it doesnt. Between these days no server configuration or restarting is done. What i notice is that on the fileserver, computer management>shared folders>open files- the .msg file remains there even after the workstaiton that accessed it in the first place is shut down.

Someone suggested to me before that it might be caused by the long filenames of some .msg files or the deep paths where the files are saved but i've tested this with short file names and paths and it still happens. I also do not have google desktop. Outlook isnt even installed on the fileserver. What can be causing .msg files to lock up? Other documents on network shares do not have any problems with being accessed.
