How do I associate macros with Normal.dot programatically?

Hi, I'm currently building an installer using InstallShield (6.3). The product i'm installing has an export function to mail merge with MS Word, I have included a .dot template in the install and this has the relevant macros embedded in it. Installing this file gets the macros on the target machine but the user then has to make the association with Normal.dot manually. Is it posiible to embed/install or associate these macros with normal.dot on installation, as this would effectively automate the process for the end user.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You can copy macro code modules from one template to another using the OrganizerCopy method.
Better than that, you can make your new template a Global template by installing it in the Word StartUp folder. That makes maintenance simply a matter of replacing the old template with a new one.

Thanks, that startup folder seemed to do the trick, only problem I have now is that when i try to call the macro with a /<macroname>  argument in the .INI file - that the software uses when doing the export, it doesn't seem to find the macro. It does find it when its part of normal.dot. Do you think i have to give it some kind of further reference when passing the macro name as an argument?

I suppose that the INI file is using the /mMacroname Word startup switch which I believe cannot incorporate a file name, so will only work with  the normal template.

Perhaps you could use the /tTemplateName switch and put an Auto macro (AutoExec) in the specified template.

Alternatively you would need a Run statement to call a macro in another project.

Note that you could use VBA extensibility to do edits within VBA code modules but it requires the user to allow it in security settings.
