The difference with SQLRTTestConnection2 is that it only tests a specified connection where as SQLRTTestConnection( ) tests all connections, it doesn't really affect the error handling, Thanks anyway.

Browse All TopicsHi, i'm currently developing an installer for a product that will have to connect to a remote database. During installation i'm using the SQLServerSelectLogin2() dialog to retrieve connection information.
After this I use the SQLRTTestConnection( ) function to determine if the credentials are correct. The problem is that the error message returned during the SQLRTTestConnection( ) function (from SQL Server I think?) always goes to the back ie: is hidden by the SQLServerSelectLogin2() dialog.
How can i supress the error message all together and handle the error myself? or bring the error message to the front so the user doesnt have to sit there waiting
This is the code:
SQLRTInitialize2 ();
winResult = SQLServerSelectLogin2("DBC
if( winResult = BACK ) goto gt_DestPath;
SdShowMsg ( "Please wait a moment... Testing connection.", TRUE );
WinLogin = FALSE;
if( SQLRTTestConnection( Server, Catalog, User, Pass, WinLogin ) != ISERR_SUCCESS ) then
SdShowMsg ( "", FALSE );
goto gt_SQLServ;
endif;

I'm not very familiar with installscript, but maybe you better use SQLRTTestConnection2 which superseeds SQLRTTestConnection .
