How to register XLL files with installshield

Hi X-perts,


I am getting an installation error when IS tries to register XLL file. To make it self-register, I just checked "self-register' box in the file properties.

I can register it manually with regsvr32 with no problems.

How can I do it with IS?

Please, advise.

The recommended way is not to allow COM objects to self-register, but instead extract their COM information into the installation - which Installshield can do easily, right-click the file and extract.

Thank you. I also realized that extracting COM into installation is the only way that works with IS.

The only problem I am having now is that even if XLL is registered, its COM component is not registered with Excel as addin. Are there any references how to manage office addins vis IS?

As I said in your 2nd question, find out what being registered as excel add-in means in terms of registry settings, then specify those settings in IS.

I mean, somewhere in the registry there must be a list of all available add-ins, that Excel reads and attaches them when it starts.

actually no, it's still possible to specify self-registration if desired.

I tried checking self-register many times and it always returns "error 1904 & 1905" during installation and ununstallation. I also tried different combination, i.e. self-register with COM extracting and without etc.
