Install Shield

I've managed to get an install to work.  But when I try to uninstall, I get 'Can't find InstallPath'

From your post it looks like you assume that we all know your situation and what was the install you got to work, and whether you created it yourself, or acquired somewhere. We don't know any of that, so please give more details. The best if you upload detailed log, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300  for details.

Would attaching the files help?

The person who did the original install shield work is no longer with us.  So I'm trying to update the system.  I add the new .exe files, with no rpoblems, but there are 2 new .dll files and 1 .ocx file which although I put them in the SystemFolder, they do not self register.  When I regsvr32 each of them after install, the program works 100%
Yes, if you can upload the source file, the .ism, it would be the quickest way to find out what's wrong. We wouldn't be able to build the installation without the executables, but would be able to look at the installation itself.

I noticed, however, that how you described the problem in the original post and in the comment above, have nothing in common. So you also need to tell what is the problem - that the dll's and ocx don't self-register, or that you receive "can't find installpath".

Also, as I said, please post the log of the installation.

I've been working on the .msi file.  Will that be OK?

Tried to upload but file too big.  Max 50mb.  Mine is 135mb.  Got the 3 files to register, so install is working OK.

Just the uninstall.

If I can have your email, I'll send it via "yousendit"

Note that according to E-E rules, once I have the file, I will make it available for download to everyone. Make sure it's OK with you. As an alternative, you can contact any expert privately by clicking on their profile.

File sent
didn't receive anything. 150MB emails usually are not very likely to get through.

Upload here.

Sorry sent original to vadrimrapp1.  Added the 1

File sent.  Reservit.msi
OK, if anyone is interested to look at the file, it's at

I'm looking into it.
It looks like you must have another file named data1.cab, probably in the same directory as the .msi. Upload it as well, to the same place, it's needed for the installation.

Just uploading it.  Thank you
Remove custom action named "f11", then it uninstalls successfully.

That said, this installation appears to be very old, and have numerous issues to address. It would be very beneficial for it to have it reviewed and cleaned up, if not re-made from scratch. Such as, it installs the product into root directory, which is bad practice and will cause security-related issues on modern systems. It creates unnecessary entries in start menu; it includes very old merge modules with system com objects that in all modern systems already come with the operating system; I was able to successfully install it without entering code, and it did not say anything about the database, however when I tried to start the application, it did not work because it couldn't connect to the database. If d.b. is necessary, the installation should address it. And more. It seems to me that if you release this installation to the public, you will provide very high and long-term job security to your support group.

When you install it asks for location of db in attached jpg.  If you put in either the IP 210.86.29.232 or reservitnz.no-ip.biz it should work.

Or if you edit the reservit.ini file in the default directory and put the Date Source = 210.86.29.23 or reservitnz.no-ip.biz, it should connect to my pc and allow you to have a play.

Is the correct F11 to delete?  Want to be sure before doing it

> When you install it asks for location of db in attached jpg.  I

Since I didn't know what to enter, I left it empty and was able to continue. Which probably shouldn't have been allowed.

What I'm doing is just producing a client install.  I'll worry about the server install later

Thanks for your help, I'll give it a go

Just to be sure are you saying delete the CleanUp section completely>
Yes. Delete Cleanup custom action.

Make the backup of your installation, in case something does not work. For me, it worked.

Works like a charm.  You're amazing.  Thanks for everything

Keep looking for more questions that I'm sure I'll have.

Thanks again
Thanks. As I said, this installation does beg to be improved in practically all directions, especially if you are going to release to the public. There are many experts here who would be glad to help, you usually can obtain their contact information by clicking their profiles in the right side of this page under "top misc installation experts".
