Safe to migrate ASP.NET 2.0 to 3.5?

I keep reading that .NET 3.5 is just 2.0 with built-in AJAX. It even uses the same core and don't even need any code changes. I currently have an ASP.NET 2.0 / C# website (with no AJAX.net installed) and have been thinking of making the jump to 3.5. Visual Studio 2008 keeps asking me and am pretty tempted especially since I want to start using AJAX on my website. As a test, I've backed up my website and let VS2008 convert it to 3.5. It looks like the only thing it did was put a WHOLE bunch of entries into my web.config file. Is that the only thing it did? I don't even think it did anything to my website in IIS 6. I get no errors when I build it thru VS so it seems effortless. Should I continue on this 3.5 path or is there something I'm missing or something else I should check? The website seems to working as it was before. Performance seems the same too. Please share your thoughts and experiences on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was concerned when moving to the latest version as well.

The one thing to be aware of if you are putting your web applications into a specific application pool in IIS is that you have the correct version of the .NET Framework being applied to the application and application pool.

Other than that, I have found it pretty painless.

.net 3.5 runs on the top of .net 2.0, there is not problem with upgrading an existent 2.0 application, it will fun identicaly.
About the 'pool' stuff, every assembly is marked with the proper .net version that should use. It never takes a different version that is not designed for.
