The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Insert <xml-stylesheet...> into XML serialized output

Asked by johneanderson in .NET Framework 2.x, Microsoft Visual C#.Net, Visual Studio

I am using Visual Studio 2005, .NET framework 2.0.  I am creating an XML file by serializing an object (see code snippet).  That works fine, I get the expected output:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<ECGExportData xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" DataFormat="BinaryRaw" SamplingFrequency="1000">
  <Patient MedRecNo="1001" LastName="Anderson" ...

I have an XSLT stylesheet called "ExportData.xslt" that I would like to apply to this XML file.

My first question is: How do I insert a reference to this stylesheet into the XML output so that opening the file with Internet explorer will apply the transformation.  Something like this (inserted into second line):
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="ExportData.xslt"?>
<ECGExportData xmlns:xsi=...

Is there something I need to do to the XmlSerializer to get it to include the stylesheet reference?

My second question is: How can I do all this transformation in code, so I generate an HTML file with all the XSLT formatting applied?  Ideally, I would like to be able to produce two files: 1) An XML file containing my serialized object, and 2) An HTML file containing human readable interpretation of the output.Start Free Trial

                FileStream stream = new FileStream(exportFile, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write);
                ser.Serialize(stream, this);
                stream.Flush();
                stream.Close();
