Using Visual SourceSafe 2005 with VS 2005

Asked by saleek in .NET Framework 2.0, Microsoft Visual Basic.Net, Visual Studio .NET 2005

Hi all,

I am new to using Visual SourceSafe, so bear with me!

My current set (which I did myself using guess work) is as follows:

I have created a separate VSS Database for each major solution that our department currently owns.

I then moved these solutions to a file server and create a network share for them.

My thinking was that developers would open the projects residing on the share, this would "check them out" and when they "check them in", the projects on the network share would be updated.

Is this a good work flow?

Also, as I have created separate databases for each major project (as recommended by MS) I am not sure how the projects that are shared between solutions will be affected in this work flow scenario.

For example, many of the solutions share a project which is the business layer of the n-tiered apps.

If I add 2/3 solutions to VSS, which all contain the same Business layer project, will VSS overwrite the same one each time or will it create different versions of them?

A little advise is what I'm after really.

thanks,
