The Windows Update program keeps trying to, but fails to, install "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806)".
Here is my system information:
OS Name : Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version : 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
System Model : Dell Precision WorkStation 530 MT
System Type : X86-based PC
Here's what shows up under 'Add or Remove Programs' :
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
Here's what I've tried so far, and the problems I've encountered.
If I try to repair .NET Framework 2.0, I get this error:
"Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Setup
- A error occurred during setup
- The installation source for this product is not available.
Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."
Unfortunately, I don't know what the original installation source was (a download, a CD); I can't find anything. I searched Microsoft online (at
http://search.microsoft.com) for '.NET Framework 2.' and found only this:
'.Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)'
But not this:
'Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0'
Am I supposed to use 'Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)?'
Another reason why I'm trying to repair or uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is because my TurboTax 2007 won't open. When I try to run TT2007 it fails to open and reports the following problem:
"Our apologies for any inconvenience this issue has caused.
We have outlined a solution to this problem here:
http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/kb/installing/errors/5068.html.
We know your time is valuable, and appreciate your help in reporting this problem."
The link above to the TurboTax website indicates the following solution to the problem:
1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Uninstall TurboTax.
4. Uninstall .NET 2.0.
Note: If a higher version of .NET is installed (e.g., .NET 3.5),
uninstall the higher version first, and then uninstall version 2.0.
5. Reinstall TurboTax. (This will reinstall .NET 2.0.)
6. Update TurboTax.
What is my best course of action here? Should I follow this solution from TurboTax? What if I still cannot uninstall .NET 2.0 because the setup program needs the original installation source files? Should I download and install 'Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)?' Or do you have another solution?
