Writing Nulls to Table

Using VWD, I have a form containing a number of text fields which are being used to enter numeric scores in a questionnaire. These scores can be an integer of 0 - N , or left blank where there is no answer.

When the form is complete the data gets written to a SQL Server table, where the fields are held as smallInts or tinyInts. I am using a Stored procedure for this.

To set the SP parameters I am using  'myPar.Value = Convert.ToByte(myTextField.Text) which is failing if there is an empty string. I don't want to insert the value 0 because I need to show that the question was not answered.

How can I insert Nulls into these fields via my SP ?

Check if myTextField.Text = String.Empty, and if it is, use set myPar.Value = DBNull.Value
