Question

New asp:Chart server control caused a "Configuration Error" when browsing to web page.

I installed the New ASP.NET Charting Control: <asp:chart runat="server"/> and added a chart to a test .aspx page.  The new assemblies were added to my web.config automatically, but when I browse to any page on my website now I get this error:

The control shows up in the ToolBox of Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and I have Framework v3.5 SP1 installed.  I installed the new Charting Control on my workstation.  Does it, perhaps, need to be installed on the web server as well?  Just guessing.

edit: Oh, if I open a page from Visual Studio (local) in debug or not debut it opens fine.

Hi there,

You need to install MSChart in the server as well, the assemblies are installed in the GAC and not deployed with the application.

After reading some other posts and a bit of "Googling" I did install MSChart on the server and I kept getting the same error.  It does run locally so I expected that to fix it.  I'm not sure what's still causing the error. ... Oh I take that back.  I'm at home now and I just browsed to the site and it does work fine.  I'll have to flush the cache in my browser at work and delete all temporary files and cookies and such.  I thought I had done that, but I'll do it again.  At least it is working from outside the network so I should be good to go.

Copy local system.web.datavisualizations.dll to the bin directory of the web site.
