Asked by: r_pat72

Hi,

I have a c# winform application, initially it asks for windows domainname/username and password. Is there any way I can validate this domainname/username and password after user enters the same.
If someone can provide some sample code that will be great.

Thanks

are you just wanting to make sure that their username/password is valid, or are you actually needing to run code impersonating the logged in user?  (i.e. do you need that specific user's access to files, etc., or do you just need to validate a password)?

If you're just needing to validate a password (without the need to impersonate the user), the easiest way is to use system.directoryservices and see if you can attach to AD using that users's username/password to run a search.  (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973834.aspx for extended discussion and examples).  You can also get any user properties from AD that the user has access to while you're at it using this process (i.e. get the user's name, email, etc. using the directory searcher)

If you're just looking for quick code examples without the explanations and extended dissussion, try:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/290548/c-validate-a-username-and-password-against-active-directory.

Hope this helps.
