Deployment project in Visual Studio 2008

Can anyone please advise about some good tutorials about creating a deployment project in VS 2008? I have no experience using this functionality but I need to create a deployment package where the following is considered.

- The output release exe from the main project needs to be installed as a service on the target machine
-.NET is a prereq
- I need to install the .NET add on vjredist.exe
- Some xml files needs to be installed to the target directory
- Is it possible to dynamically update a xml file during this process? I need to set the app path in the xml file.
