you need to specify which control use for trigger. for this you will use following line of code.
<asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID = ="ControlName" />

Have tried seting the update panel with UpdateMode="Conditional"?

Asp will not update you in AsyncPostBackTrigger mode..
please this tag to
<asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID = ="btnUpdatePic" />
this will update.. because a bulk stream of data has to be transmitted to the server. due to that you cannot do this in this mode.
