and do we need office tools to make this type of project or can we develop without office tools.

If yes then user will have to download word document from our server and modify it and then upload back in, right?
or is there some ways to create these type of projects?
And is the extension for office 11 which runs on mac os the word documents has extension .doc or it is something else?

Are you speaking of a document manager? If so, then yes asp.net can do the trick...
And yes, it's .doc
