The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ASP.NET using SMTP causing Server Application Error

Asked by CarlKolchak in Programming for ASP.NET

Tags: web, application, access, server

Platform: XP sp2
IDE: VS.Net 2003
Language: ASP.Net in C#
Application: an asp.net form, is filled out by the user, hit submit, it emails the information to the webmaster, painfully simple.
this form works fine in production (2003 server) and in test (2k server), but not on my XP dev box.

Errors received: Click the submit button to send the information (using standard .net mail objects) the following occurs...

(i) first the JIT debugging box pops up telling me there is "An exception 'System.StackOverflowException' has occurred in /LM/W3SVC/1/Root/appname-1-127744056980735486" - asking me to choose a debugger (which folds anyway - select no)

(ii) then the webpage posts back this little msg
"Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request. Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur."

(iii) and the event log shows this information:
Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      ASP.NET 1.1.4322.0
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      1000
Date:            10/21/2005
Time:            2:03:59 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:      machinename
Description: aspnet_wp.exe  (PID: 3872) stopped unexpectedly.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. <<less than helpful btw.

I have read through various other SMTP + ASP.net threads on e.e., and found other similar cases, but now answers.  I am clueless at this point and now require some help please.
If I have missed providing any information, please don't hesitate to ask for it, I'll gladly answer further questions.
