The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Indexing MSSQL database content and ASP.NET searching

I am in the process of migrating a site from Coldfusion to ASP.NET.  The site has about 20,000 HTML articles that are stored in a MSSQL database (title, summary, body).  I need to create a search feature of those articles to be included on the site.  The keyword/boolean searching capabilities were previously done using the Verity tools that are built in to Coldfusion and I'm looking to replace that functionality with some other indexing product/technique.  I've looked a little at Index server and I think I could build something that pulls the DB content out into text files that can be indexed, but I'm looking for comments on that as well as other solutions/commercial indexing products that can remove that middle step.

In addition to keyword/boolean searching, the articles can be grouped into multiple categories and I'll be providing drop-downs of these categories to allow the search results to be filtered to include only articles in particular categories.

Another challenge that may come into play when choosing a solution is that there is a permission scheme in place that allows or denies certain versions of these articles to particular groups on the site.  So, I'll need to keep track of that in the indexing/querying to make sure I don't show articles in search results that aren't available to that user.  

Any ideas or comments on past experiences would be helpful.
