Encrypt applicationSettings in web.config

Experts,
I would like to encrypt the <applicationSettings> settings in my web.config and I cannot.
I am using aspnet_regiis from the command line as seen below :

C:\>aspnet_regiis -pe "applicationSettings" -app "myApp"
Encrypting configuration section...
The configuration section 'applicationSettings' was not found.
Failed!

The applicationSettings section is indeed in the web.config
I can use the same utility to successfully encrypt/decrypt the "appSettings" section.

Please help.

You have to use the command prompt from the framework .net directory.
You can launch it from startmenu/all programs/microsoft .net Framework sdK/sdk command promt

As I stated I can successfully encrypt the appSettings in the file.  So I do not believe that it is a pathing issue.

There are two similar sounding sections in the web.config -
appSettings and applicationSettings

I see alot of commentary about encrypting the "appSettings" but nothing about the "applicationSettings".

Can "applicationSettings" be encrypted ?

"appSettings" are mentioned but, "applicationSettings" are never mentioned in that link

I found the answer ... Do I get points for finding the answer to my own question ?

Apparently you have to specify the path to the specific setting within "applicationSettings" when dealing with "applicationSettings".  You cannot simply encrpypt the whole block in one shot.

The confusing thing is, when dealing with "appSettings" you can just simply encrypt the whole block.
