Hello fellow Experts, please shine your light on a strange randomly occuring error message I am getting.
For several websites I build at my company (and two colleagues have exactly the same problems) I am getting error messages out of the blue, after sometimes months of working flawlessly. The error we get is:
Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.template_master' to type 'ASP.template_master'.
This is occuring at the time of a page Preload event, for which the code is:
Sub Page_PreRender()
If control.ToString = "ASP.ControlArticle" Then
Master.PageTitle = control.pageTitle
End If
End Sub
Nothing to get excited about I would say, don't you agree?
This error is occuring on the line Master.PageTitle = control.pageTitle
The weirdest thing of all is that if I comment out the line, save the file, then open the file, uncomment the line and save again...everything works as it should again.
Ofcourse this is very bad to have happening to our sites, so if anyone can shed some light on why this is happening and what to do to solve it...I would be one happy camper!! ;)

it could also have to do with changing one line in web.config
<compilation batch="false"
But that would only be affective if this happens only after a change in the files, which makes the site partially recompile.
I will try out all options and see whether it gives any results... this could however take a while since there's no telling when this error would occur.

Part of this was fixed in a hotfix available from Microsoft that you have to obtain for your servers. There's still a few cases in which even after the hotfix, the issue will creep up at times which Microsoft is still trying to work out. See this forum thread for more information, in particular, look at the posts by "ScottGu".

Other users in that thread claim that turning off batch compilation for your site(s) will fix the bug that hasn't been fixed yet if you experience it.
