The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Launching pdf with datagrid control

Asked by nigerman in Programming for ASP.NET

Tags: asp.net (vb)

Greetings again,

I have another, hopefully, quick question.

This code below works great with classic asp.

     <a href="downloadtracker.asp?File=<%=rs("filename")%>" Target="DETAILS" onClick="window.open('','DETAILS','width=950,height=540,scrollbars=yes'); return true;"><img src="img/pdf_file.gif" border="0"></A></span></FONT><br>or<br>

I am trying accomplish the same thing using asp.net (vb flavor).

I am using datagrid control.

Can someone, please help?

I just can't seem to get it to work right now. No errors but the page opens blank.

Here is what I am using:

datagrid (weform)
<asp:HyperLinkColumn HeaderText="<font color=white>PDF</font>" DataNavigateUrlField="filename" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="downloadTracker.aspx?id={0}"  DataTextField="filename" Target="_new" />

Then downloadTracker weform:

<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Inherits="UPS.downloadTracker" CodeFile="downloadTracker.aspx.vb" %>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
<head runat="server">
    <title>PDF Details</title>
</head>
<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
    <div>

    </div>
    </form>
</body>
</html>

Finally, downloaTracker.aspx.vb (codeFile):

    'Handles page load events
    Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal Sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
        '  Dim Conn As OleDbConnection
            'Dim param As SqlParameter
            Dim cmdcommand As SqlCommand
            Dim objDataReader As SqlDataReader

        Dim strSQL As String
            Dim Conn As SqlConnection
            Conn = New SqlConnection("data source = consql;initial catalog = Court_Link_Docs;Integrated Security=SSPI;")
        Conn.Open()

        'SQL display details and rating value
            strSQL = "SELECT * FROM Court_Docs WHERE [file name]= '" & Request("id") & "'"

            cmdcommand = New SqlCommand(strSQL, Conn)
        'Get a datareader
        objDataReader = cmdcommand.ExecuteReader()
        objDataReader.Read()

            Conn.Close()
    End Sub

Thanks again very much
