The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

The project type is not supported by this installation

Tags: VS 2005
Ok, this makes no sense.  I am not able to see the web project when I open the .sln.  It's greyed out.  So naturally I try to remove and re-add it back to the solution.  But I get this message below both when I open the .sln initially and then also after I try to remove then re-add the web project to the solution and I don't know why.  The file is not corrupt and I can open other .csproj files just fine..all other project layers are opening fine in this solution.

I'm using VS 2005.

Error: The project file c:\..\myfile.csproj cannot be opened
The project type is not supported by this installation

When I compared this .csproj with just another project, lets say the data layer, a project in there, I see that the other that particular project (which is added to this solution just fine)

 <ProjectGuid>{0C72031B-ACA5-48E9-8618-9C63DE21FC81}</ProjectGuid>
 <ProductVersion>8.0.50727</ProductVersion>

and this web project has plural "ProjectTypeGuids"

<ProjectTypeGuids>{349c5851-65df-11da-9384-00065b846f21};{fae04ec0-301f-11d3-bf4b-00c04f79efbc}</ProjectTypeGuids>
<ProductVersion>8.0.50727</ProductVersion>

another guy on my team can open this same solution and it includes the project just fine.  I just did a reinstall of VS2005 so I would think it's not a problem with my VS but could be.  I don't want that to lead you in the wrong direction as I'm not really sure what the problem is...can't figure it out.   I can open the web project in VS 2008 fine alone by clicking on the .vsproj, but it's definitely not a VS 2008 web project.

VS 2005 web projects does not have project file, we just map a web site root to a folder path.
Those details will be stored in the .sln (solution) file.

Does your project files are attached to the source control system (TFS or VSS)?

Open web site (File -> Open -> Web Site... or File -> Add -> Existing web site...) and select the folder from the file system, that's it. you will get the new web project attached to your solution.
