The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Insert a textbox record into database using asp web form

Tags: asp.net
I've been reading on this and can't find anything on how to enter a record using the asp.net web form.  I see a few examples in C# but I don't see anything in vb.  Is this possible?

I have a simple webform that has 2 boxes and a button.
box 1- Name
box 2 - title
button - Continue (this continues to another page but I want to write the data to a database)

The database is named Names and it has 3 columns (id - autoid, Name, title).
Can I do an insert into table statement to insert this record?

Using a sqldatasource you can click on "Configure Data Source..." and it will guide you thru a select statement but as part of that you can click on "Advanced..." and it will have a check box to generate insert, update and delete statements for you.  The next step is to match the textboxes with the insert statement.  To do this go over to the properties of the sqldatasource, click on the box next to InsertQuery and another box just to the right should appear (box with 3 small dots), click on that and it will take you to a dialog box.  Here click on the fields of your table underneath "Parameters".  When you click on a field, then click the Parameter source dropdown.  Select control, then select the ControlID from the dropdown (2nd one).  Once you have done all the fields you can call it from your code like this -

Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles     Button1.Click

  SqlDataSource1.Insert()

End Sub

Can the script be added to the cb file or does it need to be in the aspx file?

yeah, just for simplicity i put it all in one place, but yeah, you could definitely put it in code-behind.

in fact a more "proper" way to do this is to have an object model/business logic which instantiates business objects based on user input, then persists them using a data access layer (3-tiers)... but for a simple demo, that's overkill....

I don't see my fields in parameters.  I can create an inset query here.  How do I link the textboxes to the field names?
