The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Converting VARBinary (from SQL Database) to an Image in a Datagrid with a Template Column with an image

Asked by Mezillinu in Programming for ASP.NET, Microsoft Visual Basic.Net, .NET

Hi guys,

I have saved images in an sql database as varbinary data.

To save them i have no problem, but on the other hand - to render them and view them in a datagrid i have no idea how to do this.  I have built a template column, with its field's name which it extracts data from it is named imgData.

I was going to build a function to render each image of each row and view the image in the specific data column.

I started with the below code, but i think I am missing some major issues - i am not sure if my way is the right one, so i am open to new ideas

All help is appreciated! Thanks!

PS: This is the code when i load the data.  When i load it at the moment, before i started using template column, it used to return a value under each column as "System.byte[]" . Now i want to convert that into an image in the datagrid. this is the code below - nothing special just normal datagrid binding.

 Private Sub Load_Data()
        Dim ds As New DataSet
        Dim SqlAdapt As New SqlDataAdapter(("SELECT * FROM tbl_products"), conn)
        SqlAdapt.Fill(ds, "tbl_products")
        GDProd.DataSource = ds
        GDProd.DataBind()
    End Sub

Private Sub Render_DBImage(ByRef db_image As Byte, ByRef Ins_Control As Control)
        Dim M_image As New MemoryStream(db_image)
        Dim INS_image As System.Drawing.Image
        INS_image = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(M_image)
    End Sub
