Container not available outside ActionLinks

I'm trying to figure out why in my if statement, the container is not recognized but is in my ActionLinks. Container.DataItem works great in my ActionLinks (MVC) but just my if statement evaluation line is not happy.

         </span></FileTemplate>

I get this error:
