The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Allowing ASP.Net application to call a COM/DCOM object without throwing UnauthorizedAccessException

Asked by ipaman in Programming for ASP.NET, C# Programming Language

I have a windows app (windows2003 server and XP) that is using the GlobalScape CuteFTPPro.8 DLL to make SecureFTP calls to a server. This works great, but when I try using this exact code in a ASP.Net app it fails with the "UnauthorizedAccessException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID..." error.
I have given ASPNET privileges to the calling dll, the folder it resides in, the main registry key, and have also ran dcomcnfg and set the Launch and Activation privileges to aspnet. What else would need to be configured toallow ASP.Net to run this code?

Sample code in the app:

public void transferFileFTPS(string ftpLocation, int ftpPort, string ftpProtocol, string ftpFolder,
                                 string ftpFile, string localFileFolder, string ftpUser, string ftpPass, TransferDirection direction)
        {
            string errStr = "";

            try
            {
                //TEConnection site = Activator.CreateInstance<TEConnectionClass>();
                ftptelib.TEConnection site = new ftptelib.TEConnection();
                site.Port = ftpPort;
                site.Protocol = ftpProtocol;
                site.Host = ftpLocation;
                site.Login = ftpUser;
                site.Password = ftpPass;
                site.RemoteFolder = ftpFolder;

                site.Connect();

                switch (direction)
                {
                    case TransferDirection.Upload:
                        site.LocalFolder = localFileFolder;

                        //upload: first param=filename to upload, second param is desired filename at destination. (if u need to change it)
                        site.Upload(ftpFile, ftpFile, 1);
                        break;
                    case TransferDirection.Download:
                        site.Download(ftpFile, localFileFolder, 1);
                        break;
                    default:
                        break;
                }

                site.Disconnect();
                site.Close("EXIT");
            }
            catch (Exception ex)
            {
                errStr = ex.Message;
            }
        }
