Postback not firing for OnSelecedIndexChanged for a Listbox in asp.net

I cannot get the onselectedindexchanged event to fire for a listbox. I have set autopostback to true. I have enabled viewstate on the page. put a break in page load to see if it's posting back at all. It never goes there. Clicking different items has no effect.
