Question

How to repopulate HTML form using ASP.NET

I have an .aspx file that contains HTML controls such as this

            <input name="c23_c2" type="text" id="sOrganisation">

When validation fails, I want to repopulate the value of the above HTML textbox.
How to do this?

I know I can get the value by using Request.Form["c23_c2"]
But how do you set it?
I need a quick solution. Thanks in advance!

add the property runat="server" to the control and then access it in the code behind using

sOrganisation.Text = "Hello World!";

Put a literal somewhere in the .aspx file, then when you need to restore the value on postback...

Ah it should be

sOrganisation.Value = "Hello World!";

You shouldn't be relying on JavaScript to do something this simple.

Yeah but I don't know any other way.
I think i tried .value as well, but it is not an ASP.NET control, when you type "sOrganisation." the intellisense doesn't popup anything

It must be an issue with your intellisense then because the error

"System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlInputText' does not contain a definition for 'Text'"

Means that the ASP.Net page recognizes that there is an HtmlInputText control. THe last time you tried it did you have the runat=server property set??

Actually, you don't even need to set the Value
After you put runat server, it will retain the value!
Too bad I cannot test it if the javascript would still work, as I've been assigned to another project.

Welcome. Just for future reference, it's best to avoid JavaScript for all functionality that is necessary for the application to work... at least whenever possible.
