not able to create default membership database using website configuration tool

I am using Visual Studio 2008 .net framework 3.5 for doing my web development project. The problem I am facing is that I am unable to automatically create a membership database . I put a login control  and then configured the website using website configuration tool. I ran the security wizard completely including putting users and assigning roles. But when I completed the configuration I couldn't find any data in App_data folder. I can create sql express databases manually successfully. I don't want to use the aspnet_regsql tool to create database manually.

So you are saying that no aspnet_db.mdf has been created?  If you run your website does it throw exceptions or does your membership provider work?

yes no aspnet_db.mdf has been created . The website works fine otherwise.

So to confirm are you saying your website membership DOES NOT work and you cannot find the .mdf file

OR

Are you saying your website membership DOES work and you cannot find the .mdf file  

I think that it is actually using a rooted aspnetdb.mdf file.

When I go to web application administration tool I could see the message that my application is configured to use AspNetSqlProvider but I still couldn't find my .mdf file in app_data folder.

I also tried to log in through my website I get the server error "couldn't find the specified membership provider. So I guess the membership provider isn't working.

There isnt any membership tag inside web.config file.
