Browse All TopicsHi all,
I am confused. I downloaded the Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and I don't see how to create ASP.Net applications. Is that because it's the Express Edition or did they do away with ASP.Net development in Visual Studio 2008?
Documentation talks about Visual Web Developer. Is that a different application that has nothing to do with Visual Studio 2008 and if I purchase Visual Studio 2008 will I also have to purchase Visual Web Developer?
I don't see a template for creating an ASP.Net project in Visual Studio 2008.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Thanks

No this person is incorrect.
Visual Studio, as a purchased product, encompasses not only application development but web development as well.

@weareit : Pls read the qts b4 posting. He is talking about Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and not Visual Studio Standard/Professional/etc editions.
And my response was :VWD is free version just like Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and that its a separate download/install from the Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition.
I did read the question and in his question (which he asked twice)
"Is that because it's the Express Edition or did they do away with ASP.Net development in Visual Studio 2008?"
"Is that a different application that has nothing to do with Visual Studio 2008 and if I purchase Visual Studio 2008 will I also have to purchase Visual Web Developer?"
To me since Visual Studio Express is free and Visual Studio Standard/Professional are purchased, my response is completely valid.

Ok... you are correct... I didn't read it through ... If he has Visual Studio he wouldn't need Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition or VWD. If using Visual Basic and want to create a web project you just have to Click File>New Project>Expand the Visual Basic tree node>Web and then pick the kind of ASP.Net template you want
For the record I only read :
" am confused. I downloaded the Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and I don't see how to create ASP.Net applications. Is that because it's the Express Edition or did they do away with ASP.Net development in Visual Studio 2008?"
If you have Visual Studio 2008 you don't need to download Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition which is why I responded the way I did.
