Question

Clear and rebind dropdownlist

I have this code and i'm not sure how to clear it,

    protected void FillDropDown()
    {
        List<int> childs = new List<int>();
        childs.Add(7422);
        childs.Add(7760);
        childs.Add(7437);
        childs.Add(7550);
        childs.Add(7422);
        childs.Add(7420);

        for (int i = 1; i < childs.Count();i++)
            foreach (var obj in Manager.GetCh(childs.ElementAt(i)))
                ddlObject.Items.Add(new ListItem("[" + obj .ObjectId.ToString() + "] " + obj.Name, obj.ObjectId.ToString()));

        ddlObject.DataBind();
    }

For everytime I choose a value the dropdown is refilled with new values. of course needs the dropdown to be either cleared out or not reloaded at all. I tried the Items.Clear but that makes my code that store the selected value in another control to stop function..

this code is just fill the ddl , but  where s the code u ve written for the selection ?

I think u are calling the FillDropDown() function in the page load event

Just write the IsPostBack condition in the page load event

Ya I have it in page_load and moving it to isPostback will work, but ther must exist other, more flexible way, to solve the rebinding?

Just place a breakpoint in the page load and debug the code u will find out why this is the best solution

you most likely only want to fill your dropdowns in the !IsPostBack section

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs 2)
{
  if(!IsPostBack)FillDropDown();
  //this way it will only load on the initial page load
  //this will then keep your selected values in ViewState

i fyou are going to clear it each time, you will have to store the variable somehwere like in the Session[] and re-set it after you re-fill the dropdown
